What Vitamins Help Grow Men's Hair?

growing hair men

You’re told to eat right and take your vitamins and exercise so that you may stay healthy. It’s a great way to live. Treating your body right will keep it happy and help it run like a well-oiled machine. Guys, stress and improper nutritional management can greatly affect the way your body fights off diseases, infections and its ability to grow more white blood cells. Hair is also greatly affected as you get older. Your hair’s ability to grow can slow or even stop for a multitude of reasons. However, the most prominent reasons are if your follicles are receiving the proper nutrition to continue growth, or perhaps the natural recession of your hairline is due to age. Both can be dealt with with one key factor: vitamins for hair. Your hair system is like an engine, each part needs something specific to make it run efficiently. Male hair needs vitamins that promote hair growth, guaranteeing its health and longevity. While it may not seem manlike to care for your hair, your hairline will thank you in the end.

The Stages of Hair Growth

Hair grows in cyclical phases, there are three; anagen, catagen and telogen and one independent phase, exogen.

Anagen Phase: This phase, commonly called the growth phase, is quintessential for healthy hair. The anagen phase lasts for around 2-6 years. During this phase, the hair root is active, ensuring rapid division of hair cells. New hair is formed and hair grows continously. This phase is very sensitive for hair. Many things can affect the quality of growth. For example, growth is affected by your stress level, what diseases you may be fighting, and how well you are eating - i.e. nutrition. Hair can fall very easily out of the follicles - independent from the exogen phase, which will be discussed later in this article.

Catagen Phase: This transitional stage of the hair growth process is short, lasting only 2-3 weeks. It happens at the end of the anagen phase. This signals the end of the active growth of hair. A club hair is formed during the catagen phase, which means part of the hair follicle is in contact with the lower portion of the hair becomes attached to the hair shaft. Blood supply is then cut off from the hair, when the club hair is completely formed. This initiates the next phase in hair growth, telogen.

Telogen Phase: The resting phase, this lasts around 3-4 months and is the period during which hair falls out on its own, or is being pushed out by the newly growing hair. Then, a new growth cycle begins.

Exogen Phase: This stage, called the shedding phase, is independent from anagen and telogen. One of several hairs that might grow from a single follicle exits the scalp. Normally, up to 90% of the hair follicles are in the anagen phase, while 10–14% are in telogen and 1–2% are in catagen. Both males and females go through the same growth stages. However, gentlemen, your heads need certain vitamins for hair to grow especially strong. If blood supply is cut off from the hair follicle, nutriment for your hair is seized and cannot be transported any further. You need the right number of vitamins against hair loss.

A Natural Order

There is a balance to growing and shedding hair. For example, if there is more action in the telogen and exogen phases, then this can lead to rapid shedding that causes major or minor hair loss. This can be exacerbated by stress, lack of nutrition, or the body's reaction to fighting off a disease. Supporting this natural order takes certain key vitamins that are absorbed by the hair follicles. Vitamin C is absorbed by the hair and helps create collagen, which is the most abundant protein in the human body. Collagen also makes up one-third of your hair. Lacking in Vitamin C and its antioxidant properties can lead to excessive hair shedding, which is not the phase you want to be in. Biotin helps your body metabolize carbohydrates, fats and amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein, helping your hair grow and stay strong. Keratin is the foundation of hair, it helps retain its structural integrity. Hair fibers are made up of 95% keratin. This is important when considering the types of nutrients for hair.
